91% Increase in Local Search Traffic for a New Zealand Small Business
The Challenge
A New Zealand-based waste management company needed stronger organic visibility, improved local search performance, and more qualified enquiries across both B2B and B2C services. Before implementing SEO, the business had limited organic presence and was not capturing enough high-intent local search demand.
The challenge extended beyond simply improving rankings. The business required a cohesive search strategy that connected its B2B industrial waste services and B2C residential offerings, while also strengthening local SEO, reinforcing its sustainability positioning, and creating a clearer customer journey.
The Work
As the organic SEO consultant on the project, I led both the strategy and execution: keyword research, local SEO, website optimisation, conversion-focused landing pages, Google Business Profile optimisation, and ongoing performance reporting.
The work involved mapping high-intent keywords to key service pages, improving website structure and internal linking, and creating SEO-focused landing pages tailored to both B2B and B2C audiences. It also included optimising Google Business Profile and Bing Places, strengthening the brand’s sustainability messaging and “locals supporting locals” positioning, and analysing user behaviour through Google Analytics to improve conversion pathways.
The Results
Within six months, local search traffic increased by 91%, growing from 560 to 1,071 monthly sessions. The business also secured and maintained top rankings for 24 high-value keywords, with an additional 31 keywords moving into top-ranking positions.
Beyond improving search visibility, the project helped build stronger internal marketing capability — the team was trained to create more consistent, on-brand social content that supported the broader SEO strategy.
